Overview

What Go Digital Lab was, and what I did

Go Digital Lab was a full-service digital consultancy I co-founded and ran from 2015 to 2021 - delivering software development, web and app builds, digital and performance marketing, and data analytics and dashboards. Over five and a half years we served 50+ B2B and B2C clients, including public limited companies, across real estate, education, professional services, and travel & events - spanning Europe, the US, Australia, and India.

As co-founder and head of operations, I led a multidisciplinary team of designers, developers, content creators, and marketers, owned client delivery end to end, and ran the business on Agile. This is where the instincts behind my product work were formed.

The Problem

One shared team, many clients, four time zones.

Running a services business at that scale meant constant tension: one shared team, many clients, competing deadlines, four time zones. The job was to deliver consistently without overextending the team or the margins. Three problems defined the work - and each taught a lesson I now use every day in product.

My Role

How I operated

I operated as both owner and delivery lead - accountable for the client outcome and for the team that produced it. I set priorities, ran Agile delivery across concurrent engagements, and built the process and ownership that let the agency run without every decision routing through me.

  • Portfolio prioritization
  • Agile delivery across concurrent clients
  • Cross-functional team leadership
  • Client & stakeholder management
  • Metrics, analytics & reporting
  • Process & operations
Challenge 01 - Prioritization

Prioritizing a competing portfolio

The hardest call every week was what got built first. With one shared team serving 50+ clients, demand always exceeded capacity. I ran continuous prioritization and capacity trade-offs - weighing deadlines, client value, and team bandwidth - and used Agile sprints to allocate work in focused cycles rather than spreading everyone thin.

Outcome: 70+ engagements delivered across the agency's life, with 8–10 concurrent projects at any moment - the capacity cap was what kept quality consistent and the team intact.

The product parallel: Sequencing scarce resources against competing demands - and saying no - is the skill I lean on most as a PM today.

Challenge 02 - Data-Informed Delivery

Running delivery on data

I made measurement the backbone of delivery. We defined what success looked like for each engagement, tracked project health against it, and - through our own analytics and dashboard service - gave clients transparent reporting on outcomes and ROI rather than a list of activity.

Outcome: Analytics-driven reporting turned every engagement into a renewal conversation - and contributed to 25% repeat business across 50+ clients.

The product parallel: Defining success metrics up front and deciding from data instead of opinion is exactly how I run products.

Challenge 03 - Cross-Functional Leadership

Leading a cross-functional team

I led designers, developers, content creators, and marketers as a single delivery engine - and deliberately built the agency so it didn't all route through me. Clear ownership per discipline, Agile ceremonies, and documented playbooks let the team scale beyond my direct involvement.

Outcome: Grew the team to 20+ across four disciplines and sustained 25% repeat business on the strength of consistent delivery.

The product parallel: Leading a multidisciplinary team through influence and process - not authority - is the core of senior product work.

Operator Thinking

Key decisions & tradeoffs

/ 01

Shared team over dedicated pods

Why Maximize utilization across 50+ clients.

Tradeoff Accepted context-switching cost; mitigated with clear per-client ownership.

/ 02

Agile and iterative over fixed-scope

Why Adapt to changing client needs.

Tradeoff Less upfront predictability; managed with change control.

/ 03

Invest in process to remove the founder bottleneck

Why Scale delivery beyond me.

Tradeoff Short-term cost of documentation and delegation; paid off in resilience.

Impact

What it added up to

50+ Clients
4 Continents
20+ Team led
70+ Projects delivered
25% Repeat business
5.5 yrs Operating

Five and a half years of running delivery for a global client base taught me the operator's version of product management: prioritize ruthlessly, measure everything, and build a team that doesn't need you in every room.

Reflections

What I took from it

Go Digital Lab is where my product instincts started. Before I owned a roadmap, I owned a portfolio of competing priorities, a P&L, and a team - and learned that the job is less about having the answers and more about sequencing the work, reading the data, and trusting the people you've set up to deliver.
